2013 - Researchers visit EC

At the beginning of May, 2013, our students attended an assembly given by researchers, Gary Kohanbash and Justin Rosenbaum, from the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI) Hillman Center. The purpose of this presentation was to bring to life the meaning behind our annual Evans City STOMP Walk that our students participate in each year. (For six years, our Evans City family has worked together to support UPCI's research that contributes to finding a cure for cancer.) This assembly helped our students make the connection between their fundraising efforts and the resulting impact on society.

Gary Kohanbash and Justin Rosenbaum shared a video tour (posted below on this page) of their research facility and what the fundraising does to aid their research in finding improved treatments and ultimately, a cure for cancer. These researchers also visited various classrooms (some photos below video presentation) to continue the discussion about their work, their education, and the impact that our students can make to our society.

Thank you, Gary Kohanbash and Justin Rosenbaum, for sharing your time and research with us. We hope that the assembly and classroom visits helped our students to better understand what their fundraising work means to our community, country, and world. Together, we truly make a difference!
