Saulle's Teddy bear Official Memorial Parade (S.T.O.M.P.) |
Mrs. Linda Saulle |
In 2007, we lost one of our beloved Kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Linda Saulle, to cancer. Mrs. Saulle started her own daycare and taught for 9 years before coming to the Seneca Valley School District, where she taught Kindergarten for 17 years at Evans City Elementary. Mrs. Saulle was married for 35 years and had three children. She loved the beach and being involved in her family’s activities: sports, dance, and band. She helped organize and begin our PTO craft show. Mrs. Saulle is greatly missed!
In her memory, we organized an annual walk called S.T.O.M.P. Out Cancer - in honor of the great Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Saulle was and how every year she had a Teddy Bear’s Picnic. (STOMP stands for Saulle’s Teddy bear Official Memorial Parade.) During the parade, students, faculty, and staff walk around the school to raise money toward cancer research. One hundred percent of all the monies raised in this walk go to the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.
In 2009, the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute nominated Evans City for our fundraising efforts, and we were awarded the 2009 Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy Award by The Western Pennsylvania Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. (Founded in 1960, the Association of Fundraising Professionals represents over 30,000 members in 206 chapters throughout the world. The Western Pennsylvania Chapter, with over 300 members, represents 12 Pennsylvania counties and the state of West Virginia.)
In 2016, Evans City Elementary and Middle Schools, along with principals Lauri Pendred of Evans City Elementary School and Marie Palano of Evans City Middle School, were named winners of the 2016 Pennsylvania Principals Association Bob D. Schiller Memorial Cancer Research and Support Award, sponsored by Lincoln Investment Planning, Inc., for the annual STOMP Out Cancer campaign. The association award is presented to schools and principals who have promoted programs that support cancer research or survivors of cancer. In addition to the award designation, Evans City also received a $2,000 check to put toward future STOMP events. (PA Principals Association is the only professional organization in Pennsylvania dedicated to the support and well-being of school administrators with a special emphasis on elementary, middle and high school principals. PA Principals Association is committed to the advancement of the profession and strives to provide exceptional services and benefits to its members.)
